Emu Caller, Boobinch.

An Emu Caller is a unique Aboriginal hunting tool used to attract Emus.

Banging the smaller hollow end with the flat of their hand produces an unusual sound that arouses the Emu’s curiosity and lures it away from the nest so the Aborigines can safely access the Emu’s eggs.

It is made the same way as a Didgeridoo, from specially sourced bush timber with the centre having been eaten out by white ants.  Years of skill and knowledge is required to source the special timber.

Hand carved and painted by an Aboriginal man from the Miss Emily Aboriginal Group from Robinvale, by the mighty Murray River in north western Victoria.  Aborigines have had a presence in this region for more than 40,000 years, ensuring a rich indigenous culture.

Various designs to choose from and being made from the bush timber he traditionally sources locally, each piece will be a slightly different size with different artwork.
